I’m tired. As before, about 2.5 weeks in and I’m sick of turning on the camera. I’m ready to do something else. Fortunately, the schedule was changed enough that I got a break after the first two weeks. My director and I parked ourselves at the coffee shop and edited and edited.

At one point, my wife (who had since flown off to Manila for her work) emailed me and said, “…sorry things haven’t worked out!” She was right, things didn’t work out as scheduled but things worked out. Just like the Malaysia shoot in February, there were more than a couple things thrown in I wasn’t expecting. Bangladesh was no different. Some good, some bad, but it’s the way the cards play out when you’re shooting unscripted.

I’m in Manila right now for Peacemaker Ministries. I’m doing a shoot for the Philippine sister organization Peacebuilders while also doing some filming of the Doctorate of Biblical Peacemaking graduating students who converged here one last time before heading off to their respective countries to start their dissertations. I’m also doing work for the stateside of PM things;  online videos, paperwork and other boring stuff.

Finally, I’m rocking some new artwork for Unheralded. It’s really hot, but it’s not going to be seen until after the first of the year when the new Red Futon Films website launches (which I need to blog about as well) and the Unheralded marketing plan hits full swing. Yes, whenever I’m on these trips, it’s all work all the time; I get up, turn on the computer and never shut it off until my eyes close. My director razzed me more than frequently about my incessant need to always be working. It’s hard habit to break when I get back home.

More on the new film Unheralded, my marketing plan, Red Futon Films and that whole side of business a bit later. Maybe after my R&R in Mexico the end of next week

…at that great coffee shop across the street from the hotel. The last two days haven’t panned out for shooting like we were hoping but that’s okay, it’s not crucial. On the flip side of things, we’ve gotten WAY more editing done that we expected too. My director’s pounded out 6 scenes and started on some music editing. I’ve got almost 3 scenes laid up in timelines, 1 scene rough cut, and 2 killer animations done for primary transitions.

I have to admit, as I sit here staring at my script and subclipping myself to death I’m wondering if I have the chops to cut this well. No matter which way I cut it (pun intended), it’s going to be a challenge and growing experience. I’m counting on good screenings to help this process. I can’t afford to hire a cutter so…I’m it.

I think it’s going to be a strong story…not for everyone but will hit it’s intended audience on the money. Being able to spend a few unplanned days editing here in Dhaka really helped me tap the vibe I’m going for; from the font, graphics, flow and music. I guess it’s similar to an author writing from a location he’s using in his book.

Tomorrow, we’re off at 8am to shoot and at a conference….not glamorous but it seems to be the only way we can nail these people down much to my chagrin.
